Default Getting a jump on soft water

Spent the last couple of days preping vbottoms boat and organizing my crappie gear for our trip to Louisiana. Going to my sons in Monroe for a week and plan on doing a lot of fishing. We'll be leaving about the 27th and may be able to get there in time to catch the weigh in for the crappie masters at Darbonne Lake. We plan on fishing this lake later in the week and it would be cool to see the quality of fish in the lake. One lake on our list is a shallow cypruss swamp rumored to have 2 1/2 to 3 pound crappie and bull 'gills as well as gators and snakes. Should be interesting. I'll shoot some posts during the trip and hopefully some sweet pics.

I've been down a few times and honestly, I catch more fish in Michigan. Just nice to see new things, fish new waters. Jeff( vbottom) has never been down. Usually I rely on a local who doesn't fish alot but we're taking our own boat and figure to unleash some yankee techniques on the fish. Either way we will have a good time. Planning a fish fry/ crawfish boil during the trip.

Is vbottom a member here or just a nickname for your friend?

Yes, you be safe and come back with some good stories for our spring camp. There are a number of C.com members down around D'Arbonne that would love to show you where the fish are. If you make the weigh in you might just meet some. I see you posted on the LA page, so they may be lookin for ya. "D" (Danny Pisani) might just be in the crowd and if so shake his hand for me.

I'll be looking for Crappie.com hats in the crowd. Seems like a good bunch of guys down that way. ( up here as well ) They've been very helpful with info and with any luck we'll pass muster and they'll point us in the right direction. It will be easy for them to find us on the lake, we'll be the ones with the yankee spider rig rod holders, 1 1/4 pvc. Made it removable for when we're trailering the boat and also so we can pivot it left, right or straight ahead if we're fishing the drop offs on the edge of the channels. I'll post some pics when we're on the water.

I was stationed at Barksdale AFB back in 1967-70. My wife and I used to fish Lake Bistineau. I heard it is covered with duck weed now, as are a lot of the lakes in N. La. I'm interested to hear how your trip turns out. Watch for the snakes in the Spanish Moss. AHAHAHAH. I could tell some stories.
