Never been there myself, but by the looks of it (as much as you can tell) from the satellite map, all those pull thru's look fine. I did note there is a split-rail fence along the road that runs the waterline with a bit of a slope down to the water. None of the satellite pics show any boats moored along the campground, so I suspect either the shoreline is not conducive to beaching a boat, or it isn't allowed. That, along with having an end site with awning facing the south, docks, and the boat launch close were all reasons for my choice. Since we are going to camp for the week, having plenty of room to set up the canopy with a view will also be sweet. We'll have to call long distance in order to get in touch with you waaaayyyy down there. :Rofl
If you haven't already seen, Newaygo Co. Parks has this photo gallery of Sandy Beach...

Not a bad price. Same for the annual for the metroparks.
Hey Yd: It's not that far down there is it? I hope we could keep our boat in front of our site? That would be great.
Prolly not for a youngster.
So we can beach our boats if that camping area says its okay?
There are a number of boat docks by the launch, as well as on the north end of the campground.
Ill call tomorrow and find out what it takes to use them, and how they feel about beaching.
Larry,
The weekend before is a graduation party for my neice. I believe my parents will be headed to the UP the week we are going to Camp. In fact, I might leave directly from Crappie camp and head to the UP myself for a week or so. That is the main reason I was just going to get a cabin for the weekend for my daughter and I. I don't have a problem tent camping, just didn't want to have to bring that gear and then tote it to the UP with me when I know I will not use it.
I spoke with Kim today and I am in the "Aspen" cabin (neighbors with Alboy).
Kim told me that they have some new construction going on that they hope will be completed by the time we arrive. They are putting in a new boat launch with what appears to be 4 launch lanes (three docks). They are also putting in a new parking lot to support the vehicle launches and paving the entire area. The location of the current launch will then be turned into a fuel depot (next year) for people on the water.
That's better. I don't like to walk a half mile in the morning to fetch my coffee. :biggrin Birthday is still pending, but not by much.
Regarding my question about beaching boats......
I called Kim today, she told me that a boat had to have water under it and firmly anchored to the bottom, no part of a boat can remain on dry land.
I have a auger post that screws into the ground and you can hook your boat to it just out from shore. I ask Kim about it and she said it was fine to use it. Just an idea if anyone's interested.
Thanks for calling guys, I got side tracked and haven't called yet.
Probably a dumb question.
The confirmation for the campsite says check in is at 3pm, does that mean,
A) we have to be checked in by 3 pm or B) does it mean check in anytime after 3 pm
?
Cannot check in before 3 pm, but sometimes the site is vacant and they may let you set up a little earlier.
Thankyou for a speedy reply good sir. Makes sense too, on my last camping trip I watched the grounds maintenance clean up one saturday afternoon after a some overnight campers stayed there.
Just got done emailing back and forth with Gabe VanWormer from Michigan Out of Doors. Some of you know that he and I have been talking for a couple of years now about taping a show on crappie fishing. He has tried to make it to one of our camps, but has had scheduling issues thus far. He's now aware of the date/place for this spring so we'll see how that shakes out.
That sounds awesome, been watching their show for years. Be very cool to be able to be apart of it too. Got my fingers crossed.
Hopefully we can make something happen
So it's probably mostly my CDO (same as OCD, except all the letters are in order :biggrin) but I moved the last posts on filleting to the "random posts and thoughts" thread. Let's try to keep the camp thread on focus please. Thx.
If anyone is interested in helping collect some prize donations, send me a PM and I'll get you a couple flyers and a sample letter to send out!
Spoke with Kim @ Newaygo Parks today. If you are thinking about renting a dock, you cannot do that until May 1st. Just FYI.
Is this still the weekend of June 6 and 7th. Didn't read through all 12 pages, just the first couple. Might try and make it over.
Yes, the weekend of June 6th and 7th is the date. Most of us will arive on Friday (some days before). We have a get together on Friday evening around the campfire. The main festivities will be held on Saturday with a friendly tournament to start around 7am. Weigh in will be later in the day with the raffle and potluck to follow.
I have a flyer that will be posted later in the spring detailing all of the event times but the above information will help you get planning. If you would like to make reservations, the information can be located in one of the previous posts. We all hope to see you there.
I found this report today by Newaygo Co. Parks that lays out the future development for Sandy Beach Park. Looks like quite a transformation. The two pictures are not quite at the same scale, but you can see the boat launch is about as much as they show in the current layout. The beach and day use areas are just off the picture towards the dam.
On the new picture, the boat launch is now a double lane with a 50 space truck/trailer lot, general store, and fuel dock (orange highlighted area). It looks like they plan to add five more cabins where the two existing ones are, along with adding 100 more improved campsites and a new dump station (green highlighted areas). They will also be improving the day use area with parking lot, improved beach and restrooms with additional camping cabins (yellow highlighted areas). Each of the different colored areas represent another phase in their 5yr. plan of improving. They even have a houseboat marina in the works.
At any rate, according to Kim they are going to be working on the first phase (orange) this spring and hope to have it completed by the time we get there. Not sure how that all factors in, as it looks like that phase uproots the primitive sites and both the aspen and oak cabins??? I guess that couldn't be, or they wouldn't be booking those, eh?!!
Well I thought ya'll might like to see this at any rate.

They actually have all the woods cleared at this point and are just waiting until spring to start construction on the new launch area. Kim told me the plan is to have a new fuel station however they don't think that will happen this year.
Yeah, you know how those things go sometimes, so we might find our launch as a work-in-progress when we get there. Either way it'll all be good.
No Nick, it's yours, no mix up. Were not going to make it this time.
What happened Larry? Was looking forward to seeing you guys at camp and you having the opportunity to fish Croton/Hardy.
Nothing happened, just changed our minds.
Are pets (puppies) allowed?
Yes they are.
Again things change. We will be at Spring Crappie Camp from June 1st. till June 7th We will be on site 166
That's great news Larry, we should have a great time
