Here fishy, fishy, fishy...
Was playing around on the website for Bruin Lake and looks like the reservation calendar goes out as far as May as of today. If it works like I think, then later next month you may be able to reserve for June. I was trying to coordinate campsites on the campground map with google earth maps, but there seems to be some dissimilarities, so not sure if I'm looking at the same sites going from one maps to the other. I may have to plan a side trip next run to the east side of the state.

As of today you cannot start your reservations in June. It will let you start them in May and stretch out to June though. I suspect that the beginning of next month will be open for reservations. I'll continue to check. Also, in my opinion, the best area is Sites 90 through 126. They are over a small rise and furthest away from the park entrance in a grassy area overlooking the lake and close to the fishing pier.
Currently it shows those sites as closed but I suspect the reason is because they are doing some construction work in and around that area as we speak.
I'm trying to think of some ideas for door prizes for the upcoming event. If anyone would like to take up the challenge of helping to collect a few door prizes, please let me know. One of the thoughts I had was a "swap meet" style. Every single one of us make and use different things out on the lake. From Don and Carol's fish counters, fishing rods, poured jigs, Flytyer ties flies and jigs, lanyards, crawler harnesses.... we all make something or have stuff that others don't or have never seen. Might be a neat idea for each of us to make up a couple of things and put it on the table.
The joke has always been "I go shopping in Don and Kevin's boat", the trueth is, we always look at other peoples rigs to see their setup and find out if they have anything we have never seen or heard of. This might be a good chance to intruduce that "stuff we make" that no one else has or can get.
Any Ideas, please throw them out for the group.

Count Off Shore in for some prizes, maybe even something new we've been working on if it's ready by then ;-)

Good thoughts Rich. Plenty of time for everyone to ponder what they might be able to contribute. As I said in post #3 the campground map doesn't match what you see if you view the campground in Google or Bing maps satellite view. We will be over in the Fenton area for Thanksgiving thru the weekend, and will actually be staying at my sisters house on Lake Chemung in Howell. It looks like the campground is actually open as you can make reservations for November. I am going to make that side trip and get a first hand look at the sites. I'll post my report after the holidays for those interested.

A light went off in my head just now...I know, amazed me too! Rich posted that they were doing construction in the loops that hold sites 90-126, and I posted that I was having difficulty coordinating satellite maps with the campground map. I'll bet they are rearranging the layout of the sites. I guess I'll know more after this weekend. I did try calling the number listed for information at Bruin lake, but got no answer.

Michigan spent some money on Bruin Lake campground. The whole bottom end has been reworked with new layout/roads/paved sites/limited access sites. The reservation site map is accurate, so don't rely on the satellite maps. Here's some pics.
All the sites are level with some being a bit deeper than others. Many have an extra slot for vehicle/boat trailer. The boat launch has eight parking slots total, but there is a visitor parking/overflow area just across the road.

Thanks for the pictures Don.
I was going to be over there last week (with a camera) but the ice didn't cooperate!
I utilize the overflow parking quite a bit. This gives the closer spots to people that have a hard time walking. Of course, most folks don't care about that stuff....
