lake odessa , (or jordan lake as some call it) has a good crappie population, I have caught a few very nice slabs there.
I just moved (again) to hastings, am only about three miles from thornapple lake, hope to get time to check it out soon, I know it has lots of crappie, just have never heard about any good sized fish coming from there..
    good luck!!

    John,

Isn't that funny how we never "hear" of any good sizes coming from a place but we go there and catch em. Then we have that "ah ha" moment and realize why we never "hear" about it!

With that said... In a couple of weeks, John's Thornapple reports will read..... "Fished thornapple Lake for a couple hours, caught a few fish but nothing worth writing about", and our interpretation of it will be "I'm hooking up the boat and heading to Thornapple!"

I have actually seen some nice crappie pulled out of Thornapple. I have never fished it for crappie but I am going to check it out in the next few weeks. I am heading to Baldwin this weekend. Hopefully we catch a few!

I've seen John fish a few times now and it's serious business. If he can't catch 'em, nobody can.

22 miles to Hastings there is leach lk., middle lk., and carter lk., all show on my stuff to have crappie. Thornapple lk. a little more south will have some crappie to any ways here is a link to barry county lake maps there is also launches or boat ramps state ramps on all those lake i listed from what my book says.

    http://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,1607,7...7543--,00.html

    leach lake aprox 109 acres
    middle lake aprox 123 acres
carter lake aprox 70 acres right next to algonquin lake.. mite have access to the two threw carter lake

any ways according to every thing i read about them on lake link dot coms web site. they got black crappie and it says the same in my book also could check out leach lake they don't got bass or pike in it just gill and specks according to my map book and what it say about it on lake link .. but it is a 22.05 mile hike every time you want to go fish or more to these lakes...

there is two middle lake in barry county the one i am talking about is about 131 acres... by the way these are the only few that have public access close to sunfield, michigan. most of the time it is a boat ramp...

leach lake ......plenty of crappie, most run on the smallish size
middle.... has crappie, not overly abundant, but they are there, about average size
have not fished carter in MANY years, must be I never did well there .......
still have to get on thornapple, maybe NEXT week. I hope.
hmmmmmm as far as hearing about good fishing... you may be right, it is the ones you here NOTHING about that may be the best fishing, as we all know, all fishermen are born liars : )

Well I went up to the private lake this weekend with no luck, it was so darn windy! The lake is very clear and I didn't see any crappie making beds yet, the water was still pretty cold. I will be back up in 2 weeks hopefully that goes much better. We might hit Sessions or Thornapple this weekend.
