    Default Installing a cable extender...help!!

Its me again.....the guy with very little electronic ability/knowledge!!! I had a thread a while back to see how I could do a "splitter" for my front DF cable for when I take the TM off in the winter for duck hunting. Someone pointed out using a cable extender which I found this one to be the one for my unit.

My question is how exactly does this hook up? Below is a picture of the where my existing wiring is. I am noticing another black/red wire on the extender. Do I simply hook those up where the others are in the picture? Sorry if this is a bit confusing but before i purchase this I would like to make sure its going to work. To give an idea of what is what....the wires most in the foreground of the picture orange/black are to the TM. The Red/black big wires and little wires with inline fuse are to the DF. Thanks as always for the help.

That hard plastic end on the right, is that a female that your original cable could plug into? I am making the assumption that plug on left is what goes into depth finder??? If I remember correctly you have transducer mounted on troller and wanted to be able to remove without removing the complete wiring harness.

That's correct...bought a quick mount but then realized that I still had the transducer to contend with when I take the TM off. And yes, I am assuming the the plug currently attached to the DF will come out and plug into the "female" end and the one on the left will go back into the DF. My dilemma is what to do with the red/black wire on the extender shown in the first pic. current wire has that setup (but also has the inline fuse), so do I just take the wires on the extender and put them in the same place on the block or do I leave one set off?

I'm thinking you will have to hook them up. Your existing plug has everything wired into one plug. Thinking when you use this extender and you plug existing plug into that female all you will have is ducer connected thus have to wire those two wires to power to supply power to unit. If that is the case and going to leave it that way I would completely remove existing power wires, roll them up and wire tie so as to not be confused if tracing wiring issue later. You also need to install the proper fuse at the battery. Hope I am making some sense.

I think I get what you are saying.....use the power wires from the extender and disconnect the old ones from the normal setup? I do have the fuse issue worked out near the battery from when everything fried on me a month or so ago!! Thanks as always.
