    Default starter

Holy smokes, checked out buying a new starter for 1983 25 Evinrude... Almost $250, a rebuilt one for about $160. Now we are looking for used one. Put a few feelers out today, hopefully we can get lucky.

Check with your local auto-electric shop. They can rebuild yours.

What Bill said. May have to search around to find one but they do still exist.

have you taken it apart and check the inside...starters are seal motors so the dust from the brushes have no place to go and build up inside.I had a starter than was 18 years on a truck that quit turning and pulled it apart, blew out all the dust, cleaned it up real nice,( the brushes were wore but still looked decent) put a little oil and grease on the inside and put it all back together and the starter was still working 2 years later when I sold the truck...might be worth looking at,
