I have a Maxxum 74 that im having issues with. I was out fishing this fall and my trolling motor got stuck on 100% power. I could still switch from mom/con but the power dial wasnt doing anything. When i looked at the pedal and hit the button once a poof of smoke came out from inside the pedal so im guessing something burned up. When i got home and tried it just to see what would happen it seemed to work just fine like nothing ever happened. There still seems to be a problem though because the blade wont spin at all untill i turn the dial up to 40% power. After that it goes up to 100% and seems to work like normal but why does it not turn on till 40%? Im debating on tearing it apart and ordering all new wires for it or what should i do? Any tips would be great!

Since you listed speed settings as "%", I'm guessing you have the maximizer version. (Very good TMs). There is more to that circuit than just a switch. I'd have it looked at by someone familiar with them. Have it checked out and repaired. Better to do that then throw money at it in hopes it will correct it. Those don't just go out. There is always a cause and effect.
I'd rather be fishing.
The control board is bad. The control board kit to update the 74 to a digital system is apx $200.00 We have them instock.
