Thread: live well pump

Mine is also a thru hull fitting/pump so if it ever has to be replaced it will be a 2 piece affair. Not convenient but it could be worse.......somehow.

There is normally plenty of them on ebay.

The older Trackers used Rule pump that they dont make anymore. If its the canister you might be able to get from Tracker.

Just to update everyone, Rule does make a replacement thru hull pump to replace the older style. I picked one up at BPS and got it installed. One word of advice, when you get ready to slide the supply hose over the output side of the pump, put some lubricant like liquid soap or petroleum jelly on the fitting. I did not think to do this and I got the hose on about 1 inch and it would not go any futher, not would it come back off. This is complicated by the fact that it is way down under the back deck and you are standing on your head trying to install it. I had to get the wife's hair dryer and warm up the hose until I could finally slide it all the way on. Also remember to put the clamp on the hose before you install it.

I noticed that the new boats at BPS had the orange Johnson pumps on them, but the they also had the Rule in stock so I went with it. The newer boats also have a strainer on the outside inlet to keep debris from being sucked into the pump, so I added that to the installation as well.

The new Rule has a replaceable cartridge motor, so if it ever goes out again I can just snap out the old one and put a new one in without going through all this again.

Sure glad I figured this out before I bought a $60 non returnable timer.

Might want to think about back-stocking that replacement canister, seems they always quit working after the new models have been out. However, our local marine supplier seems to always have these kind of things in stock. And the price tag is usually as old as the unit needing replaced. Cause he's flat ridiculous at first.

LOL I read a fishing story where the author referred to "The law of discontinued perfection". He explained that if you find the perfect fly rod and decide to buy a backup one you will never break of lose the first one, but if you don't, you will either lose or break the first one the day after they quit making the rod. Probably true and I am considering buying a replacement one to keep on hand.
