well after going to the lake friday only to release the minners we bought cause the boat wouldnt start i started looking at reasons why. first thought was to make sure its getting gas,seems to be getting plenty, then decided it must not be getting spark so checked the points and they look fine and have fire...........now im confused, gas+fire SHOULD= engine running, right? last time i took the boat out it ran fine and drove it up on the trailer with no problems, since then all ive done is change fuel filter and put sea foam in the gas.any ideas what could be wrong? being on a fixed income i cant afford to take it back to the shop and id like to be out there catching fish before long.........just so yall know its an i/o 4 cyl 3.0L mercruiser, 135hp i think. in a rinker 180v bowrider..........i hate to sound desperate but I AM!!!!!!! any help would be greatly appereciated.......

does this boat/motor have a kill switch? if so where can i find it?

I am sure you will get a lot of great suggestion. Gas +Fire+Right Time should equal engine running. I noticed you said you checked the points. Are you getting fire thru the Plugs. I am not familiar with your particular engine but I have worked on quite a few I/O's. If you can post what kind of engine it is it may help us help you. I know it says Mercrusier on it but usually it is a different engine ie, it might be a chevy, ford, volvo etc. It is just a 4 cylinder automotivie engine with a few marine additions such as water manifolds, special starter, and etc. I bet there are enough people on here that can get er going.Thumbs Up

It is probably a Chevy engine. Do you know the year of the boat and motor?

If you are looking at the engine from inside the boat is the filter mounted on the left hand side? Also the distributor should be mounted just above the filter if it is a Chevy. If you can see it, at the same level as the filter, it may have GM stamped on the block toward the rear of the engine.

That was my first thought. Also a good suggestion is check the gear shifter to be sure it's in neutral.

Couple things.
Since you changed the filter, are you sure its flowing in the correct direction?
Did you prime the fuel system after changing the filter?
