Default First skunking in 10 months

Hit the local tidal river today at not the best tide. Was able to mark fish but didn't get one in the boat in over 2 hours. Water was at 33.5 degrees which might account for much of my lack of luck. Had to use my boat as an ice breaker on the way back as the wind had blown all the ice out of an oxbow blocking the main channel. A little bummed that I didn't get anything and blew my almost perfect record. To be fair I was playing with my equipment much of the time but it was frustrating to see pretty clear signs of schooling fish and have them all ignore my offerings.

Got out today to try and redeem myself of the last trip. First spot got nothing, this was the spot I fished on Sunday. Got to thinking with the water so cold they are deeper and more protected. Used the fishfinder to scan the bottom for a quarter mile and found a deep hole 15+ feet behind a steep drop off. Fished straight down a foot above the bottom and finally got them. Missed a bunch because of the light bite but ended up catching nine in a 3 hour trip with about 2 hours of searching. Must have been on a big school because the sonar was lighting up like crazy every time I caught a fish. Still tapping the jig when I left.

Way cool on the redemption trip! My problem is that when I get kicked I find it hard to try again thinking I will just loose again. You are encouraging to me thanks for the report. Go again so you can continue to give us all hope. Kurt

Lol, I know how you feel. It's hard for me to end on a bad note. I always have to go back and figure it out. Was pretty sure I wasn't gonna get anything after those first 2 hours but I tried one last strategy and it paid off. Felt so good to lift the jig and feel the weight at the end of the line. After the first one, I caught a fish every 5 minutes with multiple misses in between. Fish finder is key in the winter reassures you that they are there and watching. So many fish looking only a few dumb enough to bite, lol.
