I think Black crappie prefer clearer water and can see better in shallow water areas unless it's windy and shallows get stirred up. Lot's of tasty tidbits like fry there too.

according to another article I read , black crappie eyesight is better than white crappie eyesight and gets even better the colder the water gets , this is likely due to less particulate matter in the colder water and something about the actual physiology of their eyes as well .....it also said they can see blue very well ....just saying
