Yes I had to pour a bunch of lite jigheads, if it's not a slow fall its a no bite.

1st drop short water at that dock , at that lake , the black crappie are about always near the beginning of the docks in shallower water , no clue why , but to be sure closer to the bank side , the white crappie there tend to stay considerably deeper than the black crappie

Just really close to neutral buoyancy seems to get bites best , if it moves too fast, little fish bite , if anything . Floating a jig where it barely falls works best and second to that , a rise that is so slow it’s boring
And a slightly horizontal path incorporated into said presentations as well

Could the Blacks be more interested in the rocks, like where they could find small craws &/or emerging larvae, whereas the Whites are looking for minnow species in deeper water ??

It is my thoughts that it is quite likely that there is lots more of what they prefer to eat in the shorter waters , they tend to feed on a much more highly variable diet than the white crappie.
Some studies have shown they consume lots of freshwater shrimp and ever larger plankton , one study I read , suggested that their stomach contents in locations east of dfw was 85% shrimp .
And we often see large black crappie take really small jigs in these parts up high in the water column as well

I think Black crappie prefer clearer water and can see better in shallow water areas unless it's windy and shallows get stirred up. Lot's of tasty tidbits like fry there too.
