my Crappie were just too BIG

Some serious Kaboom there, wish I could find a few too big for the camera. What does a ghost minnow look like? Amazing that with them spawning and so many of them around that the crappie still manage to eat your jig on a regular basis.

its a long skinny minner ,kinda clear bodied with a bright iridescent silver pearl stripe under the skin along the spine , mature they are 5 or more inches long.
when they show up spawning , you can stand in one spot and hammer till ya get tired of it , post spawn crappie really like them .
sometimes crappie are in that anything that goes by them gets bit mode , and them silver sides are really frisky and hard for crappie to ketch , so a "slower" one going by is most probably gunna get sum a dat KABOOM

I'm pretty sure this is what Ketchn is referring to as a "ghost minnow" ... or at least a close relative :

OK ... I looked it up and the "Texas Silverside" is a relative of the Brook Silverside and looks like this :



I fished with Brook Silversides that I netted from my pre-teen years into my late 20's, finding them to be far superior to Shad or minnows for catching Crappie. I've even paid the high dollar prices for Basstrix jig bodies, just to imitate the Silversides we have ... and customized a few of them with various colors :
