Yesterday I got out as Rojo did caught a bunch but only kept enough for me and my bride.
Down south eggs and spawn appears to be getting close.
Found them in 10 foot of water that the bank had slow dropping slop out to flat. Brush and grass.
Most were black crappie with a few whites mixed in. Water was muddy from last week’s rain.
Water temperature was 62 degrees before I left at 2:00 PM. Only fished from 10 AM to 2 PM. One thing we have down south is FOG!!!
Fish tended to hit hair jigs best but hit plastic with Slab Sauce applied.
Hope all has a prosperous productive New Year and good luck on the water.

black crappie in the southern parts of the country go to short water early . those will be doing it in 45 days or so , maybe even less , them that wait for March in our part of the world miss the first one or 2 runs for the larger black crappie .....for sure
one pro once said the blacks in Canada go to short water first ice out , 40 degree water ....not sure , never been there , but here they are up in numbers way before the bla bla bla about 68 degree water ....
sum kawl me tha outlaw ketchn whales
I am keeping a close eye on it here and the water is rising and at 50* nearly everywhere. I have hit the day they moved up before and it has been earlier than almost anyone here predicted. Just hasn't happened yet this year even with rising water level that I thought was a major motivation here for them.

Where are you fishing at, if you don’t mind me asking. My uncle went to yesterday, and said the fish were nowhere to be found. Wonder if the might be shallow. It’s been warm here in south AL

Good job and report. Happy New Year to you as well.
Same on our end here. Of the 9 fish I cleaned last week (I posted the picture on here), 7 had eggs.
The black crappie start to spawn most years in the southern part gulf coast states in February. Once night time surface temperatures reach 56-58 .
