Default While the Deer Hunters are Away

While the deer hunters are in the woods I slipped out after the fog burned off this morning. A 10am departure is fine as few if any will be on the water where I was heading. Arrived at the launch and not a truck in site. A couple of locals who don't need to use the public launch were out but I think they were squirrel hunters. Anyway a monkey milk BGBS stuck on my Ketchn influenced Bucky Blue custom painted 1/16 jighead sporting a size 4 Eagle Claw #570 hook. Sticks them every time. This Crappie was 16 inches with a little to spare.

Caught the big ones around 1pm then covered them up with 10-11in Tacos. Good thing I took the picture early as I got to talking at the ramp with some just launching their boat and forgot to take another picture. The fish are still biting around here.

I'm thinking adding some ground Ginger to my Corn Flake coating of the two slabs' fillets, topping a Asian Angel Hair slaw with the cooked fillets, and making a Thai Chili Sauce / Toasted Sesame Oil / Mayo to dress the tops of the fish with. Time will tell as tomorrow is Fried Crappie Tacos' day.

You just know you have a slab when you take a selfie and it doesn't fit because it's to big. Really nice mess of crappie, you certainly ended the year off right.

I'm not a Selfie taker anyway just trying to see if I could take one like Ketchn does, I guess he has a lot of practice. Getting the entire fish in the frame with these Crappie is next to impossible. Great thing about our current times, I can catch another and try again. The Big fish are still eating larger jigs, usually I'm catching with Micro Plastics by now but the water is 59-60 degrees still here, not cold enough to send them deep. Simple goals in life right now, master the 5 fish grip of Mr Dux & take a Selfie as well as Ketchn, life is good.

Someone had to do it right? The Tacos were thumping like the Big Dawgs. I wished I took a picture of one of the Crappie I caught. It was so small the BGBS was 1/2 it's length. I have the dropsies so bad lately I'm afraid to pull out my new phone to take a picture. Certainly the smallest Crappie I ever caught on a 2-1/4 inch long jig. The storm system that came thru here Saturday night had them still shutdown till midday yesterday.
