If the "hookups" were just in the jaw/lip membrane ... it's possible to have them come unbuttoned, regardless of what you're using.

When I use my "braid outfit", I don't really set the hook by "jerking" the rod. I just keep reeling and "sweep" the rod tip away from the fish about a foot. I don't think I've had one come unbuttoned since I stopped setting the hook with a quick jerk of the rod.

Now to be fair ... the rod is a 7' Med action Bionic Blade, 10/2 PowerPro hi-viz, and I have a Road Runner tied on 99% of the time.
