Yes you are correct the closer the lines on a topographic map indicates a steep slope. Conversely the further apart indicate a gentle slope….

Since damaging my brain I am trying to relearn some things about fishing. Please bear with me here. It seems like I used to look on a topo map for countour lines running very close together indicating a steep drop off. Closer to the shore is even better. Summer crappie should be there.

As seen in the picture the topo lines indicate the land rising. However, I was taught if the topo lines had lines toward the next line, Like 90* to the direction it was going, but not touching the topo line next to it, that was a depression, not a rise.
