I want one of those! I would love to see the crappie swimming in the water instead of just a blob of light. I've tried underwater cameras but Joe Pool is just too murky to see much with them.
And for those who will think it's cheating, if you use anything from a flasher unit on up, you're cheating.

To the original question. 40 feet is too close. That fella had his bow in the sky in heavy cruiser mode about 15mph. He was scanning to see what I was catching I guess. I took high marks in that deck surfing exhibition when those rollers mad it to me. He was friendly and waving the whole time. He was over a crappie hole when I left out. I idled by leaving no wake
