Yea. I thought I sucked worse than I already know I do.

warmouth and goggle eyes as you call them can be some real pecky rascals .
not to be all know it all sounding , but with a livescope unit and more use of said unit .
it will be rally easy soon for you to glance at fish on it and know if they are the intended victims .
crappie of any size look really football like in shape on these units if they have any size to them .
stay after them and soon it will be a cake walk

Try using a Sabiki rig and don't set the hook- let the fish keep hitting until you get one on. Tip it with a small piece of worm if necessary. My guess is small perch and not crappie down there.

The primary purpose of a Sabiki rig is for catching various species of bait fish located in large schools.
And it is also primarily a salt water technique.
Certainly the small jig type hooks might prove to also work for panfish species of fresh water fish.
But it wouldnt be a primary go to method for sure.
I think the best suggestion by far is to hook up with someone with known experience for the targeted fish.
