I had the same experience with trying out different colors this morning. A light pumpkin/light chartese belly combo was too close to the water's color and didn't stand out. Few strikes. But bright chartreuse or a two color laminate (one color black) got sunfish, crappie, y.perch and a 1.5 lb mud catfish! (got a picture of it). Color matters when it comes to the lure being seen from the greatest distance after which lure action is key.

(Gotta try the loop knot vs my usual uni.)
