For you that have the SI's, do you think the unit has enabled you to acually put more fish in the boat. I know the price is high, but if will help to consistently catch more crappie then I think it might would justify getting one.
    Thanks
With out a doubt, this unit has helped me put more fish in the boat. I used it to find bluegill beds in a bay. The old way of finding the beds would have taken half a day to cast all the way around the bay. It took me about 15 minutes to scan the whole bay and found 4 big bluegill beds. Soon as I found them, I casted a wax worm to it and caught fish almost every cast. I have also found crappie beds with this thing that I did not know were there and caught fish on them.
My 2 cents worth is they are worth every penny that they cost.
Have a crappie day!:D [email protected]

Richard would you say it will make your job easy now?
If you need us to. I can pick up Todd and we can come show you how to catch them now.:D
Now you see why I like my 987 so much.:D On this one you can see each bream.

Catching more fishing definetly. Once you find where they hide you can maximize your time in the fishing holding areas versus casting blind. I fish bass (Sorry I know this a crappie forum) competitively and it helped me salvage a horrible ractice at a recent FLW Stren Event on Kentucky Lake. I owe it to the power of Side Imaging for salavaging the tournament. I have a journal that details the event: http://www.724outdoors.com/Fishing/j...iArticleID=973

Whether you are fishing for fun or competitively SI will show you what's under and around the boat. Allowing you to make wiser decisions and keeping you on fish rather casting in the "dark". It's all about becoming the most efficient angler you can be. Whether you have and hour a day to spend on the lake or 10 hours. It's funner to be catchin' than castin'!

I have ordered my 997Si and it will be here in a few days. I want to be able to run it from two different positions on my boat as well as connect my laptop to it. So I know additional cabling will be involved (but which ones) and I prefer easy and quick removal between positions or to my gear bag (cuz that sucker ain't staying on the boat). I have also attempted to figure out from the Humminbird website what all I will need to accomplish this and have not been successful.

Can anyone give me a list of parts and pieces that will accomplish all the above? Any other helpful tips or suggestions are very welcome too. I look forward to using this new unit and thanks for your help in advance.

I took one of our Catfish guides out last year about this time. And he won a few and placed second on rivers he had not fished.
He told me that the 987 was 75% of his winnings. As it allowed him to cover so much water to find fish. And the others were still trying to look over a small part of what he had done in a few hours. It was taking everyone else days.

I don't all the cabling to hook to your laptop but if you go to the SI group and look in the FILES there's a pretty good listing of accessories for the SI units and many with pics and partnumbers.

I have seen some Tow Fish stuff. I am assuming your units work similar. I am sure glad that the 997s don't have to have that big MRI magnatron. Sure would be a boat full.
