The readers do help to see, but they do not turn up the light. That dimming is the early stages of cataracts. The lens begins to cloud and becomes stiffer with age. It doesn't bend as easily to adjust for distance and doesn't let as much light through. Thankfully we use very bright lights in surgery or suturing would be extremely difficult. Tying on a jig is tougher too in low light. That is the price of getting older, but it sure beats the alternative. I will just get stronger readers and a headlight and keep fishing
Cataracts are a family heritage on my Dads side, but as of my last eye appointment, I have no signs of them starting. That's been a couple of years ago but I know they are slow to progress so they haven't magically appeared.
