I use the foam. It is simple. It works. I don't care what the handles look like. Gives me a reason to buy a new pole occasionally.
Poles are probably one of cheapest items I have in my boat, considering all the baits, especially cranks, lost using them over the long haul.

You can stretch tight with long file cabinet rubber bands from office supply store.......then do your turns....works great and you dont have to make holes in your handles.
