U can test the thermostat in a pot water on da stove.

I talked with PS on dat 25 merc a few weeks ago. Would have bought but da new roof came first. Good price and it is electric start.

Yea I know about testing thermostat on the stove, did that with a van thermostat. As far as this motor being around salt, well that was probably 10 + years ago! I have another boat for the salt water! But I do live in Big Lake so we have salt in the air so yes it still has some around it.

I change impellers once a year. I do use the fire out of it.
Cheap maintenance.
Personally I think shallow water is worse.
More sediment stirred up and sucked through the motor.

Dwayne, this is just me but if it was my motor I’d put a thermostat in it. It would have to shut down on me before I pulled one. On a lot of the older motors years ago the thermostat Ed were really small and not very good so I think that’s where removing them came from. I think that larger opening and bigger thermostat would pass a lot more debris than the older ones would. And like I said before the more controlled temp helps the motor burn fuel much more efficiently and that leads to longer plug and cylinder wear. Like I said though that’s just me. You know your motor and where you run it much better than I do.

Appreciate the concern and your advice but I have ran this motor this way since I got it and the guy that I bought it from YEARS ago did too so I'm gonna leave it as is. As far as better fuel economy, it is a 25 and I can run all day on about 3 gallons of gas so not a big concern there. As for the wear on the cylinders, you are probably correct but I live by the old adage, if it ain't broke don't fix it! I do appreciate all the information that you and the others have given me though! Now to change out the impeller when it comes in! Got to hurry up and get it ready for the marshes that open up on and around March 15th!

While working on our Model T in the 40's. (True story)

Shadow -- my Motor is pretty much like yours --- I always wondered why there was the water mist in the Exhaust on Two Cycle Engines. when I was having problems with mine, I went to the Mechanics Corner here on CDC --- Cray and others there helped CURE my troubles ,, the wife had already said put a new Motor on my little 14 Ft Stick Steer tub --- I would install a new T-Stat to see if it runs better,,, you can always make it the same as the one in your hand

Thanks Larry. The motor ran fine after I changed the spark plugs. I just didn't have the mist come out of the exhaust, I believe that will be fixed once I change out the impeller. If wife told you that you can get a new motor, you better jump on that opportunity! lol
