    Default Small boat checklist

Trying to put some finishing touches on my lil flat and I need to put together a "go" bag.....and/or any have to haves.
Since I'm a rookie behind anything other than a trolling motor or paddle, I'm lost.
Since I got her up n running, I've made some reckless trips......which I'm fine by, but don't needn to be in that position with one of the boys or misses on the boat.
I know I need some basic tools (?), my paperwork, etc but I'd welcome any lists y'all boys have ready so I can be safe. Keep in mind "small" boat and basic necessities.
    Appreciate any and all replies.
    Adam

Im thinking you have all the things to be in compliance with wildlife and fisheries. here are a few things I take in case you get stuck after dark. Insect spray, toilet paper , something to start a fire. Maybe a couple Throw away poncho's. Flash light. Small first aid kit. Also a set of wire cutters incase you have to get a hook out of someone. These are a few things that don't take much space but can really come in handy .

I move a dry-bag between kayak and outboard that has a change of clothes, rain gear, a light, and a towel. Might be some other junk that I've forgotten about. I put a small dry bag in there with my wallet, phone, and truck keys when I'm out.

Two great recommendations above...especially a dry bag with extra clothes for winter fishing. I would add you need a float plan so if go by yourself, someone knows where you are and when you plan to return. Second, and most obvious is to not forget your PFD.

Have you been stung. I have wondered if the nest has to be bumped. They look fairly calm, but I've not provoked them yet and hopefully never will. What's the name of the medicine?

No I have stayed out of those nests,,,, Bro let the back of the boat swing real close one time and had the Red wasp dancing -- I just went and searched my Tackle box to come up Empty ---- I believe it is called Sting ease --- it is on a cardboard card with 4 Capsules on it and looks like Ammonia inhailant ... the Glass Capsule has a Cotton Swab attached to the end to apply the Medicine ---- I will be headed to the Pharmacy for more

Adam, I know that you are well versed in the operation a small boat from your past experiences. As a reminder, things happen faster in a small boat that a larger craft. One wave taken wrongly can either fill the boat or flip it. Also make sure you have a kill switch attached to you as it only takes a moderate size stump to bump you right out of the boat and the speed of your small motor is more than enough to propel you and any passenger into the air. Slipknot mentioned wire cutters which is good but you also need to learn or refresh your ability to remove a hook safely without having to cut it out. I' talking about using the string method but in place of a string the same can be achieved by using pliers, especially needle nose ones, to properly back out a hook.

Looks like you're getting ready at the right time of year with the big bite right around the corner.
