Thanks for sharing this information with us. I try to keep a bottle in my boat to wash gas odors and other smells off of my hands, but have never thought to use it on catfish cuts. Very good to know.

I was on a cruise a few years ago and my wife went to the onboard spa one day. She was suffering from some issues with her feet and the norweigian attendant told her to use her urine as a medicinal aid. Despite what one might think, your own urine is sterile and can have healing powers . needless to say, she never tried it. LOL. But if I'm in a pinch, I might try it. but I'm not going to let anyone else pee on me. LOL

The wife just showed me most Moisturizers & hand lotions have UREA in them as an Ingredient... If she is squemish do not tell her what she rubs on every day.

The thing about Hand Sanatizer is it Nutralizes the Toxic effect in the slime of Fish, Like Cats --- it makes the cut from Fins stop bleeding and the Pain instantly go away... I had several containers here at the house just for that purpose and in My Boat and tackle Box. I think the first time I heard about it was as First - Aid from a LifeGuard that was helping someone at the Beach that had Encountered a JellyFish while swimming at the Beach My Son is One of the Germ - O Phobes and I found every drop I had in 5 Different places is all gone --- used up and missing in action encluding the wifes tackel box . Now when Payday comes stocking up will be on my list of things to do.... Also it made me think if Bro had never Heard of how it can be used to stop the Pain from being Finned it might be I need to share it with all my friends here on CDC
The active ingredient in hand sanitizer is usually alcohol. Which will kill some a the bacteria. And cool the finned area because of the effects evaporation The warm urine will help releave the pain. But I'd rather use the warm pee out of the outboard tattle tale. Of course both contain bacteria.

Scientific fact. Urea is the chief Nitrogen containing waste product excreted in the urine of mammals and some fish. The medicinal properties of human urine has been known and taken advantage of for centuries. When your hands turn to raw meat and you can't use your fingers from picking shrimp and separating by catch you will pea on your hands all day long and thank goodness for the relief. When urine leave the body it is 98% water and sterile. Urea is a chemical that can be produced in the lab.

Very much true about being sterile. And, I've seen most folks wash their hands real good after touching the knobs on the sink. Not much sense to me. Piss, call it good, and move on.

I stand corrected JR. My so called facts are as out dated as me. It was a good discussion though and now I know.
