Strong like it is the water can at times flow North in the Mermentau. Grand and White lake act like pumps when it blows. I've been sheltered in a canal off of White Lake (the lake) and seen a passing thunderstorm move the water hard in and then out of the canal. It for sure keeps Vermilion Bay with a high tide so the locks can't get rid of the water inside. If you look at the river gage for Mermentau you can see the effect sometime. Big south wind during day and it rises then when calm at night it goes down. The graph can look like a tide chart for the Bay for a time.
