    here is some info I have learned over the years about crappie.

    normally, maybe with the exception of the dead cold winter, the crappie that are right on the bottom are NOT in feeding mode. when they get ready to feed, they move up in the water column, and suspend. this is normally where the bait fish are. I have seen this in summer and fall a lot. at darbonne every year, we almost all fish in the channel, which is between 28 and 45 feet deep. but we almost all fish 16-22 feet deep. im sure there are crappie on the bottom, but they are just not interested in feeding. I hope this made sense.

    Internet. Also a lot of the pros post tips on how to read depth finders and how to set it for what you are fishing

    those fish on the bottom are probably beer cans.
