    Default Crankbait Question

I have read to get a bandit 300 12 ft deep, it takes over 100 ft of line out. I'm guessing this is why people run lots of weight, to not have to let out as much line. Any tips on set up, how much weight, line to let out, etc. Trying to decide if I want to get into this. Thanks.

Do not use weight for pulling.....weights are for pushing. Ok.....bandit 300.....12 ft. 55 ft. of line out pulling at 1.6 to 1.8 mph

Yes, I saw that chart earlier, I was wondering how 2 ounces of weight would change the chart.

What do you call it with the poles straight off each side, slightly angled to the rear

Someone said, "If you're using weights, you're pushing, if you're not using weights, you're pullin'. Doesn't matter how the rods are positioned. Pushing cranks does involve the weights which reduces the amount of line out to get a crank down to a certain depth. You can "push" from the side of the boat but you will need different length rods to stagger the lines in the water to prevent tangles. Some guys push and pull at the same time, pushing from the front with 2 or more rods, and pull from the back half of the boat with however many rods you can afford and feel comfortable dealing with.

Go to the main fishing forum or the Miss. board, and search for pushing or pulling, you will find many threads with lots of good info (how to) and the different ways different people do it. Some just pull, some just push, some do both, it's a matter of individual preference.
    GO BIG ORANGE !

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.

Your right jimp.....I do both and sometimes at the same time out in open water. When I just push only its when I am areas where I cannot make long sweeping turns....I can turn sharper pushing. Pushing is when the depth is controled with a weight...I use two oz weights three ft. ahead of the crankbait.......Pulling is controlling the depth with out a weight by length of line out. One big advantage of pushing is you can use any crankbait....shallow running, deep running, or a lipless crank bait like a rattle trap. Both methods I recommend different length poles so you can have four ft. of separation between your lines.

Here is a depth chart for pushing crankbaits with the line weighted three ft. Ahead of the crankbait and pushing at a speed that will lay the line back at a 45 degree angle. Name: uploadfromtaptalk1440195242280.jpg
