If I want to cover a wider area I sometimes use planer boards

About 90% of the time I cast. Sometimes I just put in rod holder a let line out and have had fish hit right behind the boat with the bait 2 or 3 feet deep

I made some planer boards they work good but I had problems after catching fish with redeployment and getting tangled in the spread. I would have to reel other rods in on that side to deploy .have you had this problem

Have same problem......and its always a mess when you get a big catfish on the planer board and it goes around the boat three times and tangles everything up. Lol

Southern Crappie rods in a 14 is good, my favorite has been the Ozark but the price is hi. The Southern rod is just over 40 bucks.

The west points are a stout rod at a low price I have abused them spider rigging and cranking now for the past 5 or 6 years. I don't have a big budget for new rods so I'll have to go with the southern crappie
