I've only had it happen when i'm fishing braid. Happened twice today, lost two minnow hooks with fish attached.
Never see a gap in the eye but somehow it does it![]()

Hoping someone can explain this. It's happened three times over the last couple of months. Here's the deal. I tie jigs on with a loop knot. I'm sold on it as it sets the hook better and is easy to tie.
The problem is that 3 times I went to set the hook and I come up with no jig. You would think the knot broke or untied. Maybe the loop broke or something like that. No the loop is intact so you would thing the jig eye opened or something like that. The problem is I've never seen a jig eye with a gap that could let the line out or any kind of gap at all. Maybe I've missed it.
Has anyone experience similar?

Are you fishing braid?
It has happened to me a lot using mono and a double cinch knot. I, too, was stumped but noticed it seems to happen with certain brand jigs.
A while back sickle hooks had some open eyes. I haven't seen any in a while.

I had it happen to me today on a road runner. I had to check twice to make sure the loop was intact. I was hung up, and when I jerked the jig loose, all that came up was line. Funny as heck. Never happened to me before. And I was using 10 lb suffix mono
