It has happened to me a few times while fishing braid. I started pinching the eyes of each jig with a pair of needle nose pliers just in case there was a tiny opening. It doesn't take much of a gap with 10lb Suffix Performance Braid, which has the diameter of 4lb mono.

I use 6# Vanish or Stren and I get 1/32 oz jig heads from the Honeyhole by the 100. I've had a few slip right through the slight opening in the eye. All of mine have come when the fish is darting around the boat. This way I can say see ya before they swim off with my jig. Normally not a problem but sometimes the WP can get in some crazy positions and twist and out comes the loop knot without the jig. I've started pinching them a tad to close it up.....I mentioned this to the folks at the HH some time ago....SLIP

I think I know now what's happening in my case. The picture shows how the loop could wind up after a cast or maybe when the fish does something. So if the loop is like that when you jerk it could put all the force right where the eye is closed. Not a great picture, but look close and you might see what I'm driving at.Name: photo.jpg

I stopped using the loop for this very reason, My eyes aren't what they once were and what I found was I was missing the eye and actually tightening my loop around the jig head

    Hey Merm,
I wanted to pass this along.
My eye sight is not so good when trying to tie a knot using 6lb test on a 1/32oz jig....

    Just sayin.....
I use one of these for all crappie jig knots, it really works good and the tool makes it easy too.

I got mine at Cabelas, I've seen them at Bass Pro too.

I found a video showing how to splice line end to end, but would like to see one for attaching line to a jig eye. Can't really tell how it would work for that.

fishbone, I have one of those and it works well but since I've learned the Palomar knot that is all I use. It's about as strong as you could want. I saw a demo on TV last week of comparing the Palomar to the Trilene knot and they rated the same. It is also easy to tie.
