I was not a lurker. I joined as soon as I found this site. Even put it to favorites so I could get here quicker. Now back to the beans. I always loved when My mom cooked red beans. I would come home from school, grab me a slice of bread and a spoon and make myself a red bean sandwich before anyone else got home.

I grew up poor eating beans and cornbread five days a week in West Texas. We would get the beans across the border in 50 lb. bags, cornmeal as well (with weevils in them :rolleyes I remember it was a real treat when we had hot dogs cut up and mixed with the beans. Of course at the time, we didn't know any better. That's a good memory as well.

to us balogny was called round steak......fried Spam canned meat was a real treat.....a Vienna sausage sandwich (with catsup) was heaven.....the meat in our spaghetti sauce was cut up hot dogs.....deviled ham (those little cans) on crackers was special....

Hey Bruce, try the Spam in your spaghetti sauce, it's my favorite all time winner. Cut it up into 1/2" cubes, so good.

if you are a survivalist (not saying I am-or not) they say Spam is the best food to have stored in your pantry.......
