We use to cook similar to that hobo pack using fish and stuff like tracker is talking about. We would wrap it real tight and put it on top of the engine block of whatever vehicle we were in. ( truck, car, boat, etc.) If I remember right 1 1//2 pounds of fish, sliced onions, bell pepper, garlic, salt and pepper was cooked just right on top of a 350 Chevy block between Houma and Venice . Two and a half hours. Sometimes we would put a can of pork and beans ,corn or sweet peas to heat also.

We used to cook on the manifold of the engine of the grain trucks going to the port. Place it on the engine when we was leaving the field and take it off when we got to the port to line up to weigh and unload. Made a great supper right before bed time.
