Thread: Rough River Lake Reports???

The bank directly across from Axtel boat ramp has produced some good gills for us. In the summer we fly fish with poppers for the bigger fish. Walter Creek is a good area as well.

Rough is about 8 feet over pool right now.

Good to hear someone has caught some fish on Rough. I love fishing there and have had some really good luck in the past years for crappie but I never saw a good report all year on them. I like to camp there and have thought about heading down during the summer for some hybrid action but haven't ever targets the gills. Thanks for the advice on places to try.

If you got to go how did you do at Rough River?

Sorry for the late response... We did pretty good the weekend of the 16th. Caught several Crappie in 6 to 8' of water 2' deep. I haven't had any luck since. The weekend of the 22nd the Lake was way up and the fish were scattered (10' + summer pool). I fished all my usual brush piles...many of them were setting in over 15 ft of water due to the lake levels. Needless to say they had lock jaw. I was down at rough this past weekend as well. They are pulling the heck out of it...memorial day weekend. It was 3 ft above when we left on Sunday. Oh... couldn't get the hook in a single fish over the weekend. Granted, I didn't hit it too hard. Did more relaxing with cuzy than I did fishing If anyone else was out at rough the past few weeks I would be interested to hear how you did.
