You just get off the boat and that happens? Not good karma!

I was trolling north of Blood River with my BIL several years ago. It was mid summer and a storm was brewing toward Paris Landing. I didn't think much about it until I raised my graphite spinning rod up above my head and it started to hum!! Not like a tune hum---this was like Luke Skywalker's light saber!! I could lower it and it would go quiet, raise it and it would get louder. After a couple of above my heads, I decided Mother Nature was giving me a warning and I headed for the bank until the storm was well out of range. Haven't had that happen before or since.

I had a buddy in GA who was struck directly while bass fishing with his Dad on Lake Lanier. When he came to, his Dad was leaning over him crying. Steve thought he was dead. His Dad did also. I don't think he had any issues but some minor burns on his legs.

Hey, glad to hear that you are OK. You may want to take a trip to the Doc though. I had a friend got struck through a Play Station console. 3 weeks later he had a mild heart attack. EKG just to be safe.

Two different boats of our group got "shocked" last week at Jonathan Creek, It was Wed. I think, the only clear day we had, every time they put the rods in the holders it would spark! This last for 30 minutes! It was near the duck blind.

I came out of a bar one night and had a girl under my arm. All of a sudden there was my wife standing in front of me........ Oh I'm sorry... You were talking about lightning hitting you. My bad.....
I think the mistake a lot of us make is thinking the state-appointed shrink is our friend.

I was trolling crankbaits a couple summers back up at Pickwick, and got
zapped a couple of times when I touched the line - first time I thought I
was imagining things, so I touched it again and got a blue arc, about like
scrubbing your feet on the carpet real good then touching a doorknob...
I hit for the bank real quick.

    Default Been there, done that!!!!

Years ago I bought my first graphite rod. Went out on Lake Wisconsin to
check it out. It was kinda drizzling and overcast, but no thunder or lighting.
I was in a 14 ft. aluminum boat and just as I casted, lighting hit an oak tree
about 60 yards from my boat. Seconds later I felt a tingle go up my spine
into my casting arm and into the rod. When it reached the end of the rod
it let out a loud snap. Being a slow learner it took 5 or 6 seconds to get the
hell off the lake!!! Although prior to that I never went in because of thunder
or lighting, now in bad weather, I'm the lead boat getting off the lake!!!!!
You can fish often, but you only live once!!
    Made a believer outta me!!
