    Default Late T-ville report

Fished Saturday evening/night for a few hours with little luck. Caught four keepers (3 from one tree) before dark. One was caught right off bottom in 22 feet of water and the others were less than 7 feet deep. All fish caught on minnows. Didn't catch fish after dark, but only stayed til 11 or so. Anyone else doing any crappie catching on T-ville?

    Take care,
    Greenfish

    Exclamation Hey Greenfish ...

have you tried getting on T-ville at first light, and fishing until midday ?? That's when most of my previous late Spring/early Summer trips were taken, and the Crappie seemed to be holding on the downed trees that I know about. The trees were good, as long as the shade was overtop of them. We usually found them to be suspended just above the deeper ends of the blowdowns, at 8-12ft deep. Caught most on jigs, casting over the tree and ticking the uppermost branches.
Now, that's been a couple of years, granted .... but, I see no reason why it wouldn't work, now.
But, if you decide to go again, you might consider an early AM trip, when/if you can swing it. The water temps are at their coolest, traffic is at the lowest, and "no bugs" :D

Once all the trees I knew of, were worked over and the Sunshine was upon them, and I still wanted to fish ... I'd usually start trolling for Hybrids, until the heat or traffic got too much then head in.

(Crappie Birthday, by the way :p )

    Hey CP,
I prefer the early am time frame myself but haven't the chance between work and wife lately. I'm going to try jigging some trees tomorrow am for a few hours. I agree with the 8 to 12 ft range, that is almost always the best depth for me this time of year. I'll let you know how it goes.

Im heading out there sometime this week, and renting a 14 foot john boat. Any good places you could recommend to fish?

    kymdfisher,

I wish I could tell you where to go but I haven't been able to pattern them at T-ville this year. I caught 2 keepers Sat. morn, one was right on bottom about 8 ft deep and the other was suspended 8 to 10 ft deep over 35 fow. Both were caught casting slider grubs. I couldn't catch any vertical jigging tubes but the wind made that a little nasty.

I sent you a PM about one place you might check but can't promise anything, this is the worst year I can remember on T-ville.

    Take care,

Thanks for the PM, What color sliders were you using, how big, and what weight jig?

Red/chartruese tail and junebug/chartruese tail. 1/16th oz jig head, 2 inch sliders. Long cast and slow steady retrieve.

I have all chartruese, and a bluew/spakles w/ chartruese tail. Would these work?

I've used BPS Sparkle Squirts 1.5" hollow tubes in Elec Blue/Char ... and caught a bunch of Crappie from Taylorsville Lake. Have also used solid Chartreuse Roadrunners (marabou) and caught a bunch with them, too.

Pretty much anything with some Chartreuse in it, seems to work pretty well on T-ville. Find you some blowdown trees, and fish them slow & thorough. Ones still with shade over them are best, but those that are on deep banks may hold fish a little longer, even with Sun on them (they'll just be a little deeper, and more towards the tip of the tree). Early AM til midday seems to be a better timeframe for Crappie.

If all else fails, and you still want some pullage ... go to the mid-lake area, at the sharp horseshoe bend. Troll out from the mud bank with small crankbaits or jigs, in the 12-17ft depth range. You may get into some White Bass &/or Hybrid Striped Bass. Shad schools in the area will indicate a better chance of them being there ... and also watch for surface jumps.
(for clarification - the "mud bank" is the bank on your right, if you're coming from the Marina and heading up towards the Horseshoe Bend area. The left bank, in that stretch, is lined with standing timber

    kymdfisher,
Those colors should work fine. I really think it's what you have confidence in and will slow down and fish. CP's advice is right on, just things haven't seemed to work out like normal this year. If you try some of these things without a lot of success it doesn't mean they won't work, they just may not be working that day. Good luck.

    Take care,
    Greenfish
