Hey guys, I'm a noobie so don't pick on me too much. Top-notch forum you guys have here. Been reading on here daily for the past 3 weeks or so, trying to improve my chances of catching a few slabs--but to no avail. Finally, I joined up before the crappie all scatter again all across the lake.
We came down and fished Eddy Creek near Eddyville last weekend and got skunked, again. Caught about a dozen bluegill, 1 14" bass, and a catfish on a 1/16 oz. red roadrunner with a 2" white Gulp Alive grub. We started out with minnows under a cork but switched over after an hour of no bites.
So, I'm looking for any pointers that anybody might have about this area. We are back to give it another try this weekend. Fairly familiar with the area, but have yet to catch a crappie out of this lake in the past 4 springs.
Thanks in advance.

But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
Went over to the bay at Kuttawa Rec. area between the prison and Buzzard Rock for about 4 hours. 1 small bass and a couple bluegill bites--that's it.
One day I'm going to beat this lake and actually catch enough fish to have a cookout for me and some buddies. Catfish are not a problem to catch, I just prefer to eat panfish and bass.
Thinking about putting in a full day of fishing tomorrow, and probably going to cut through the canal, and give Kentucky Lake a try--I just can not figure Barkley crappie out.![]()
Dont cut through before you try the bay in front of energy lake. All the way back next to the road on the right is a big blown down tree.Last fall I wore them out in that tree and with water temp's I would suspect they are in it right now. I caught mine on a lime tube jig about 3ft under a bobber. Good luck and let me know what happen's.
With the changes in the lakes, that have occurred over the last decade or so ... and with the screwy weather patterns we've had over the last couple of years ... I wouldn't be too hard on myself, for not doing so great at Barkley & KY Lake.
I used to fish the bays from Barkley Dam, up to Kuttawa. Usually during the third week of April ... and fished minnow/float in the "buck bushes", stumps, or around log jams in the backs of pockets. Even during the times I've been there during flooded conditions, I've found them to still come in and hang around the flooded live trees (as long as there's a couple of feet of stained water up around them). Doubt that will help you much, nowadays, though. And, I've never fished either lake, other than in Spring (usually sometime in April).
Have you read the KDFWR Tagging Study ? It might give you some insight into what changes occurred, over the last few years ... plus, it may be of some help in determining their movement (prespawn, spawn, post spawn period). Read all the way through all of these links : http://www.kdfwr.state.ky.us/navigat...vPath=C101C552

And do post a report, after any fishing adventure you go on. You might even try and hook up with another member, who fishes those lakes

On the north end of Barkley lake I would be fising demumbers bay. I have not fished eddy creek. I have never failed to catch crappie out of Demumbers. There is a small ramp in that creek. If you put in there follow the bank to the left. You will eventually come to a rocky point (old roadbed). Fish that area and the area leading up to it. Back off into 8-10 foot of water. Use blue, chartreuse, or pumpkin twister tail grubs. If that doesn't work then use the live minnows. When this area is fished out cross to the other side and work your way down the other. There are brush piles, stumps and stake beds all over this cove. Impossible not to catch fish. Leave the red road runner at home unless you want to be hung up all the time. Good luck and keep your rod tip up.
Sucked it up, and burned a 1/3 tank of gas and went over to Kentucky Lake and tried Little Bear and Big Bear today--still no luck. Winds were still a little too strong coming out of the east/southeast on the back side of the front. Couple small bass, couple of small bluegill after 5 hours. I love filling the boat up with $83.00 of gas. But it's worth it.
I am going to try 1 more round of crappie fishing before I switch over to bass and catfish. I have heard that Jonathon Creek has been producing pretty good numbers the last few days. I have Tuesday off, so I'll probably head back down again Monday night and give that area a try. I really enjoy the awesome scenic 110 mile drive down to Kuttawa from Evansville.
The guy that is staining our deck at the condo said his buddy pulled a 9 lb. bass from Barkley last week along a dropoff. He took a picture for a fiberglass mount to be made and released her back. So go get 'em fellas.
It was still a great day to be out on the water. Any bad day of fishing beats a day at work.
Keep your tips up, and your lines wet!!
Hello Josh, I am sorry that I didn't get arount to answering your question. On May the 25 about 4:00 in the morning I had a stroke.
