    Default Fun Day @ Taylorsville

Only caught a few crappie this morning at first light. Could have caught bluegills all day. Actually caught more casting little jigs then I did with meal worms. At noon I switched to bass for some reason. Worst conditions on earth. Hundreds of boaters. Bright blue sky. Fairly strong wind. I was throwing a gold hot-n-tot and caught five in about 1 1/2 hours and all were about 12 to 15 inches. It was a blast. Will report when I get back out.
"You should have been here yesterday!!!

Now you know why I fish T-ville from first light til 11ish, for Crappie ... then troll for Hybrids/White Bass until traffic is too much, or the heat gets unbearable :D
I'm gonna have to make it a point to hook up with ya, on T-ville ... and do some "insider trading" on Crappie spots :p Maybe even give you a short tutorial on catching Hybrids, & White Bass (if interested).

PM me, anytime you have a trip to T-ville planned (Sat's or Sun's) and would like a partner in the boat. Let me know as early in the week as you can, so I can adjust my "sleeping schedule" to allow for the trip. Don't make a special trip on my account ... just consider me "on call", if the chance arises.

Thanks for the report, and keep 'em coming .... good or bad, they help the rest of us plan to make the best of our time and money

Sounds good to me. My step son and son love to go and with school out soon, they will want to go a lot but maybe we can still go and meet up at the same time sometime also. I have never fished much for whitebass. Do they taste like hybrids because I am not a big fan of those. I usually just release them and catch them for the fun of it. I love the fight they put up. How do you fish for the whitebass when you go. I know a fellow that goes to KY Lake every year and he catchs tons of them out there.

When I fish for Hybrids and Whites, it's usually only for fun, too. I've eaten a ton of White Bass & Hybrids over the years, but they don't compare to Crappie. They aren't quite as "fishy tasting", or "strong", if the red meat line is cut off the fillets. But, the "skin on" version does taste more fishy/oily, than a Crappie "skin on" (which I find adds a sweet/nutty taste to Crappie).

I usually troll for them, cast jigs and RR's in shallow water along mudlines (created by boat traffic) ... but, cast blade baits to them whenever they're busting Shad on top. My trolling setup is simply a Hot-n-Tot with a 12-18" leader tied to the front hook eye, and a 1/16oz marabou jig tied on the end of the leader. Depending on water depth, I'll let the line out until I start bumping bottom (usually in the 12ft depth range), then reel back in enough to stop hitting bottom. I use the big motor to troll with, idling along with pole in hand. I also have a "lure knocker" handy since there's always the chance of hanging up the "Tot" :D I figure mine has paid for itself 100 times over ... in the 30+ years I've used it :p

If/when I can get to T-ville to Crappie fish (post spawn) ... I prefer to be there at first light, and fish for them until all my blowdowns are in the Sun. Then I'll switch to Hybrids/Whites, if I decide to stay and fish a few hours longer. It's a 1.5hr drive to the lake, for me, so I leave out around 4AM. I'm a nightshift worker, so it's easier for me this way .... don't have to adjust my sleeping patterns so much.

I understand about your situation with the boys ... that's why I said don't make a special effort on my account. Just let me know if you ever find yourself wanting to go, and your other partners are otherwise involved in something else. If I don't already have plans/obligations, I'd be more than happy to meet up with you.

The three W's have kept me off T-ville alot more than I care to admit (work-weather-water levels) ... and I've only fished it a couple of times over the last year or so. I'm currently boatless, but am working on getting my younger brothers boat motor running. If/when I do that, I'll be able to go more often ... and on those "last minute decision" type of trips
