    Default Guist Creek

Has anyone been to Guist Creek lately or does any one go there?
Curious because I haven't been there for twenty plus years.

Thumbs up Nice place; gets fished hard

I go there fairly often, although I'm usually not after crappie there. There are some very nice hybrids and largemouth bass to be caught there, and I have heard of people catching a lot of crappie some days. The state records for two species of catfish were caught there, also, so the catfish bite can be great. The water is generally on the stained-to-murky side, so plan accordingly. The guys at the marina (Brad and Mike) know the lake really well, and will help you out a lot. It's pretty much the closest boatable lake to Louisville, so it gets a ton of fishing pressure. It will make you feel like a pro one day, and the next make you feel like you're on Candid Camera. If you take your boat, watch out for the pothole at the bottom of the ramp. Stay to the left, and you'll be fine. Hope this helps, and keep yer lines tight!

Left side facing which direction? I was thinking of heading down and don't need to tear up my trailor.

It was on left as you faced down the ramp, but I just found out it was fixed a long time ago. I just got so used to avoiding it, I never knew when it was gone!

I crappie fished it a few years ago and did pretty good. I don't know if there is a name for how I did it but all I did was took one of my 14' poles I use for trolling and added a minnow with a bobber a few feet above it. I slow trolled down the bank and just dropped inthe minnow for a few seconds. As I moved past I would lift the pole tip and move it down about five feet. I moved very slow and caught quite a few crappie right on the bank. However, I hooked a huge bass, somewhere I would guess in the 5 lb range doing this also. I never thought in a million years it would break my line with such a long pole the had so much give, but it snapped before I got it in the boat. It was one heck of a good time. I need to take my son out to practice casting because we have our big trip to Lake Erie smallmouth fishing in a few more months and Guist Creek sounds like a good place to practice.

thanks for the up date on Guist Creek I think the last time I was there you could drive across the farms to the lake for a $1 a day. Now there aren't any farms.

Yep, there's hardly any place at all to bank fish there.
