Artcrney, thanks for the post. I'm reading the responses and this is great and hope to learn more. I've been out with M R twice in a couple years. I don't know his secrets, but he pretty much has both KY and Barkley 'mapped' with his system for his go to spots.. I think with Cranking, you need to cover a LOT of area in areas you have confidence that fish will be there during the time you are trolling or have recent experience with success. My experience with M R is that you may or may catch a ton of fish, but man, what you catch are quality fish(Crappie) along with the bycatch of Catfish, White Bass, LM Bass and others. Just exciting to know that when the rod bends, you don't always know what's at the end of the line.
