    Default not good:

I went tues. and started 4-6 ft deep in stakes with a jig and float water temp 61 nothing. I went to a brush pile 23' deep and caught 6 in a row(9" fish). That was it for me I started bass fishing. Word is All spring its up in the river and the creeks. I usually do well on barren but it's so low most of my brush is on the bank.

I had a good week or so 3 weeks ago. After the big rains came through my sources say the crappie really slowed down. I can't say as I haven't been. Hopefully they will come back on when the water warms a little more. I have been turkey hunting but hope to get on some more crappie. If the crappie do lke the turkeys have done me this time I may take up golf.

Barren is barren.....went out Wednesday had three small crappie and two bass! The lake had so much crap floating in it couldn't even spider rig. I caught some good fish back in December on the creek channel, but can't figure them out now. You'd think they'd be staging at the mouths of the creek channels. Water temp was 58 degrees. I tried several places, mouth of Peter's mouth of Hurricane Creek, Nothing!

I wish they would allow the water in the lake to come back up by April so there would be more spawining cover. The Corp could care less though.

kycurhunter, I went out with my buddy doing the creel survey this past Monday. Lake temp was 62 degrees. We surveyed some guys fishing that began their day as far back into Beaver Creek as they could go. They reported catching only a dozen or so small fish. As they moved out towards Skaggs, they picked up a few. One guy had a nice white crappie about 13 inches long. Needless to say no one was burning it up. The water is on the rise but still at least 9 ft below summer pool. The rising water may be affecting them.

Bass were slow as well. The hybrids are starting to kick in though. Several good ones being caught on the back of Goose and Grass Island right at dark on Rattle traps and spinnerbaits.

My buddy will be back on the water today....I'll see if I can give you a more updated report. Take care

Kycurhunter, how have you been doing on the turkeys? My son and I have had a real tough time with them this year. We managed to call two in on opening day around 6:00 p.m. We tried a double....We rehearsed counting 1,2,3 shoot.....The two came right up to our decoys about 17 yars away. I counted to three and then shot. My son hesitated just a minute. I guess the report of my gun startled him and he pulled off missing his bird. I've never been so disappointed to kill a bird myself in my life. I sure wanted him to get one....just thought we had the double in the bag. Since then we can't seem to find a bird willing to act interested. They'll gobble at us, but to heck with coming anywhere near us.

Just wondering what you've been experiencing.

actually not too good. I have had some technical difficulties but my son has killed one.

knight sent me a modified choke for my muzzleloader and I missed 3 before I realized it was a modified. I am still pissed. They did overnight me the right one but that was a little too little too late.

The birds worked pretty good for us early. They are silent where we hut right now.
