The US Army corps of engineers applied for 30,000 dollars in grant funding for us to do work on barkley in the next 12-18 months. Once the lawyers get the paperwork sorted out we will be adding a lot of new shallow water habitat. TWRA is also receiving funding to work on the southern end. We have several angling clubs already involved and some high school teams, so hopefully we will be able to accomplish a lot this year. I can't wait for a return to normal...
kycreek thanked you for this post
The budget isnt exactly separated by purpose. Its complicated, but essentially thats the amount of funding in the district which is used to buy "building materials". rope, blocks, wood, etc. It isnt much, but the department is investing more and more in habitat in recent years including the creation of a new fish habitat branch with full time staff that focus on large scale habitat projects. More money than 3500 is technically spent on habitat each year in the form of fuel and personnel costs. We are lucky that the types of habitat we do are pretty cheap and we receive a lot of help in the form of donated material from local businesses.
Amartinbo, Kkinda off subject of previous notes, but real curious on the status/reports on the effectiveness of the 'BAFF' system at the Barkley Dam for the Asian Carp. From what I've read/seen, there will be a 'preliminary' report on it's effectiveness this year and a 'Final' report in 2023. When and if there is a "preliminary' report, please post/direct us to the report.
Amartinbo, many thanks for your reply. Sorry, thought our people at KDFWR had had some 'control' with this effort. So, I guess If our state has no control, then to me, this effort is useless. We have NO say on if it should be continued. Hopefully, someone from the State will step up and 'Say what we do', and 'Do what we say'. Not much of this stuff is happening now, just a pile of 'spin' on why stuff can't be done in our state, SO dang many excuses for everything now why things don't happen as promised. Hopefully, others will chime in with my comments.
Adam, will you and Jessica be at the Murray Boat Show? I may need to borrow your projector again.
