Trolling for crappie

i left on monday, i never got hung on the bottom, no structure that i saw just flat bottom.

I fish the longline method along with straight line method. I use paddle tails, mud bug lures, curly tails, road runners, or anything else that makes noise and vibration for longline trolling out of the back of my boat and on the sides i use bell sinker with 2 to 4 baits tied about 6 inches apart from each other with a loop knot for better action. I drop them off the side till i hit bottom and raise them up about a foot. I have picked up as many as 10 fish at one time, as you know crappie will follow the shad and that is where you will find me.....following the shad!

I have gone to Weiss for years and fished KY Lake the very same way. I only went last year three times and we caught 90 keepers in one day trolling with the same 1/16 ounce jigs you by at JR's. I usually buy $50 worth per year just to fish with here in KY.

As for the questions on getting lines tangled or what to do with hangups.... just keep the line bring the line and keep going when you get hung up. If you have a fish, don't give the fish any slack and just wind it in. Since you continue to troll while pulling the fish in, a one pounder can feel like a four pound bass especially if you use up to 14' long poles like me.

Typically, you aren't catching fish unless you are getting hung up. I will take three broken lines for three two pounders on at one time.
