It seems to me that they do better in the early morning and late afternoon. I still pick up one here and there from 9:30 to 3:30 but not like in the morning and evening. Of course this all depends on what the water temp is - what the lake level is doing - and how far into the spawn we are. The only thing about crappie that is consistent is that they are inconsistent.
The only way to have a good fishing spot is to make it yourself!

I'm like sixfin, I think the morning bite is usually better. But if water temp and weather is right, you can pretty much catch them all day.

Same here. Most trips up to spawning they bite best early, but can bite well all day long.

That was always my opinion too until last year!!! Don't know what it is about the lake we frequent but last year we slayed them from 1 till dark. Don't get me wrong I caught fish in the mornings too but not the numbers we did in the afternoon. Now this is the same lake that 2 years ago my wife and I caught 27 in a little over an hour at 1230 on July 1 at 90+ degrees. We were only fishing 7 ft. water near a breakwall using minnows. I can say I had never done that before!!
