wannabe fisherman LIKED above post
I agree 100%. The officer was very polite, checked my license, fire extinguisher and PFD. Spot checked my livewell and I pulled all six fish I had at the time out for him in transparency and we measured them.
I hate to think that some of our own neighbors have been so complacent with not having any law enforcement presence whatsoever on two of our largest bodies of water that they have started to push the limit with short fish and exceeding the creep limit. While it does take five or ten minutes out of your day, the benefits to the fishery and public safety far outweighs the minor inconvenience in my book.
The fillets, though small, are a nice sweet firm meat that taste delicious if you catch them big enough or enough if them. They're pleasantly annoying, hit like they're a four pound smallmouth and have a knack for tangling up at least three lines if you take your time getting them to the boat. I try to do my part and keep a couple each trip.
It's an eerie feeling navigating through fog with MAYBE 50 feet of visibility at the most and hearing some idiot running up on you WOT at 60+ mph down the main lake but you can't see them. No way anyone could react fast enough if they ran up on another craft without a FLIR setup at that speed. I would say that it is a miracle no one was injured in a collision yesterday morning from the multiple people trusting their GPS plotters and not using common sense.
There were a few other dumdum moves witnessed but the multiple boats at WOT in nearly no visibility dumbfounded me.
I was told the same thing. Note; watch your buddy and don't let him put shorts in the well. I had a buddy from Indiana with me last year and a 10" crappie looks like a giant to him. Don't think he would put shorts in the well on purpose but when we got checked there was a few in there that was close. They made it but I felt funny cause I told the warden we didn't even have any that were close because I don't keep line burners they have to be 1/4 inch at least over for me to keep them. Just beware of the guy in the back of the boat. I measure the fish he caught but when they were biting good I missed a few and I really felt bad at the ramp.
Congratulations on the catch and all the game wardens that I have been checked by have been nice and no bother. Mostly it depends on your attitude whether you get ticketed.
