I don't fish Kentucky Lake but fish Barkley, the sister lake, I live on the lake and April can be a tough month based on many factors, yes, one day may be great, then the next not so good. Cold Fronts, High Water, Low Water, Winds, who knows during April. I just think it is the luck of the draw when trying to predict weather patterns and lake conditions around here. He has good advice "Pre-spawn get on the deep flats, set up to spider rig, and cover a bunch of water". All I can suggest is sometimes you need to get out of your comfort zone and explore places which may not see as much fishing pressure, I know there is a ton of structure out here, some state spots, but mostly dropped by locals which hold fish most of the year or at least at some time and point during the Crappie prime season. It is nearly impossible to hide structure with todays electronics. I think I would explore other areas than the heavily fished areas such as blood or Johnathan Creek. My neighbor who fishes exclusively Crappie have been slaying them on Kentucky Lake and it is not at one of the popular bays. Good Luck.
