No it is NOT too late. Next year they will be better, but some fish will still get around them.

Question for all. Is it to late already this year to put out some homemade stucture. I have access to tons of pex plumbing pipe, so it would be easy to make condo's. I just wondered if it was already to late this year for the spring run. Has anyone ever put any out at Taylorsville and do you have to get permission from the Corp of Engineers or just sneaking it in?
I hear pex pipe is good because it won't show up with a fish finder but you can still find it with GPS. Anyone else ever use it?

Hey Jigboy,
I sent you an email. Curious how you do the beds.

I put out PVC three weeks ago. Caught Crappie off of them two weeks later. Good Article in Crappie World on where to place your beds....

Last year we put out condos and were catching fish off of them within 2 weeks. Haven't hit them yet this year due to weather.
I didn't get your email but how I do it is I got this pvc tub used by plumbers to prevent concrete from going around pipes that will have a trap attached later, like on a bathtub. It is about 8" tall and maybe 18" square. I mix my concrete and fill up the tub but first a spray the tub with cooking spray (Pam). Once the concrete starts to set up, I insert an eye bolt in the middle and place my pex pipe or pvc pipe in it. I use the eye bolt to lower the condo into the location I want to place it. You will need to use a GPS because your fish finder won't locate the pvc or pex. I know they work well but I have always placed them early and fished them months later. Sounds like fish will be on them within a few weeks.Originally Posted by ifish

i have dropped lots of structure at taylorsville, yes it is legal, some people say why put out structure in a lake full of timber but i like to have my own honey holes, have caught several limits this winter, i am going sat, good luck.

Jigboy,
Its never too late to put out structure. We have even busted ice with the boat to put out stake beds. One thing you might want to watch is putting out plastic. We were putting out beds last September and a game warden come up to check us out. He wanted to make sure we were NOT putting any plastic or PVC in the lake. He said he had written a ticket that day to someone for putting out PVC pipe beds. Granted, we were on KY Lake so it might be different for you on your lake.

Correction on that last post. The game warden had written a ticket for someone putting out tires instead of PVC. In the local paper Saturday they showed the Dept. of F&W putting out those plastic balls by Bill Dance so I guess its not illegal. I do know that the game warden told us he didn't want us putting out plastic or PVC. Must just be his pet peeve.
