40 years ago you drowned minnows in buckbrush and willow trees that were everywhere... that stuff's not there anymore. 40 years ago you couldn't walk across the two biggest draws for crappie bays on the fishing boats without getting your feet wet. 40 years ago the water was nowhere near as clear as it is now.

I don't know that the numbers are any different now than they were then... but the lake has sure changed a bunch since then.

Every time congress is in session, we as Americans loose another freedom.

Once it starts where does it end. Illinois has a two pole limit. It is a joke. Where does it end? Continuing drumming up more federal and states laws does not fix issues.

when GOVERNMENT starts telling us how, what, when, where its not good. We are all grown men and women here instead of punishing the ones that BREAKS the laws they always punish the ones that do OBEY the laws. We as FREE AMERICANS have to stand against the government telling us how to live. Where is it going to stop? I tell u what why don't they tell the ones that have all the good equipment and nice boats to share with the ones that don't have after all its not fair for anybody to be more successful at anything over the other is it (BS). Sorry for the rant but it really sticks in my crawl for others (meaning GOVERNMENT) to tell us how to live, fish, chew tobacco or smoke or drive my car without my seatbelt if I wanted to. PUNISH THE LAWBEAKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gentleman I gotta out of law enforcement for the main reason of city, state and federal laws that are not going to make a difference after 9 years but we continue to grow them. Government then enforces them at discretion......Example......new chief wanted all trucks inside a garage like his former city near Chicago (all 1/2 ton trucks/light trucks). The law is in the books in Wheaton, IL. If the truck is not INSIDE a garage by 9pm you are getting a city ordinance violation ticket......AGAIN A BIG JOKE.

Anybody following Mr Bundy in Nevada over cattle grazing????

I should have the freedom to use 20 rods out if I wanted to and if I get my limit in 15 mins then I am done. Again punish the law breakers!

what congress doesn't realize is the more laws you make, the more law breakers you have, and they don't enforce the ones they have, except as plateboater says JMO

Let's keep the discussion on "pole limits" and leave the "political rants" out of it.

And let's stick with the facts, not rumors or hearsay. We do have a couple of members that are in the KDFWR ... so let's contact them & see if pole limits are really even being seriously considered. (PRister & BadBrad)

Continuation of politically slanted discussions/replies will get this thread locked, as it violates the site rules. You want to discuss the political side of things ... go to the Way Off Topic forum. But, bare in mind that all other site rules apply there, as well.

I think we need to be more worried about the asian carp and not how many poles someone is using to try and catch 20 crappie
West Kentucky relies on money brought it from out of staters and locals that are here to fish.
How many Bass tourneyments are held on Kentucky and Barkley lakes each year??? If we have too many incidences of jumping carp GOOD BYE bass tourneyments. Wow how will that impact the local economy?
If you lower creel limit it's not going to be worth the cost of gas food and lodging to make a trip to the lake to catch and keep only a few crappie.
Thats why I don't go to Canada to fish anymore too expensive of a trip to only be able to keep a few fish.
The pole limits have been argued many times on here. I don't see how 1-10 poles out at a time make any differavce if you only keep the 20 fish limit.
Ah.... theres the real problem how many people are keeping more than 20 fish per day??? And it ain't only the out of staters boys. I have never seen any one that I know keep more than there 20 but I have heard about some that have.
And what about short fish??? the other day there was a post about turning in someone you thought was keeping short fish. And some people said they would just mind there own business. Well if you think there should be pole limits then you should be calling the DNR about violators also.
I agree with crappie pappy we need to hear it from the horse's mouth.
But in my humble opinion pole limits will not help much. What we need is more DNR officers on the water checking boats. I understand they are short handed but thats what we need.

Question: In 2010 we had more water than we wanted, in 2011 at least in Tn the winter water level never got below 357 +/- , 2012 was a great fishing year, 2013 and so far 2014 not so good. If water is the key to good crappie spawns, where are all those fish from 2010 & 2011. It takes 3 years for a crappie to become 10". There should be gillions!
