    Default MG Trolling Motor Props

I have a Motor Guide Pro Series 6700 on my 17 ft Lund.Lately I have noticed a whining noise coming from the Lower Unit area and I think changing the prop might help. It's nicked up pretty good.I have a 3 blade MG Machete now and was thinking about going with the 2 blade. I hear they are quieter . If this doesn't help I will take it to a shop. I only fish Kentucky Lake so I don't need a weed chopper. Has anybody else experienced this? What are your opinions of a 2 blade vs a 3 blade prop? Thanks for any help.

I've got a MG 67 with a 2 blade prop and it certainly isn't the quietest trolling motor. It doesn't whine, but you can hear it run. I think my next will be a minn kota. If you have a whine it is likely a bearing in the motor assembly and not the prop. If you switch to a two blade prop it will have more thrust and run faster but will not be quite as smooth as the three blade.

My last 3 motors have been motorguides and I have no complaints. My dad who fishes 4-5 days a week since retirement has always ran minn kotas, owning at least 6 new ones in the last 10 years and lately he can't get one to hold up. He currently runs 2, 36v 101lb motors on his jon boat and both have been in the shop multiple times while under warranty (which is a 2 hour drive to the nearest service center). One of these motors launched itself off the front of the boat after it broke itself out of the mount. The mount had an obvious casting flaw that anyone could see. Minnkota tried to say he had hit something with the motor and broke the mount which was 100% not the case. He had to threaten them with a lawyer before they would replace the motor. He has had trouble with his other motors at well.
Not trying to hijack this thread just thought I'd mention that. My motor is a 67lb 24v motorguide with the 3 blade ninja prop. I'm interested to know the benefits of switching to a 2 blade myself.

I put one of these on my Terrova and really like it much better than the Wedge 2 blade that came on it.

Thanks for the Info. I thought about the bearings as well, but need a new prop anyway. so I was thinking I wouldn't be losing anything by getting a new one. I saw those Kipawa props for sale on Ebay, but hadn't talked with anybody that had one. Glad to hear that they are quality props. I have had good luck with the Motor Guides until this one started making noise, but I cant complain because I have put a lot of hours on it for the past 8 years, and my other boat had one on it that was still going strong when I sold it. What bumfuzzles me is. it only makes the noise occasionally and usually on the lower 2 speeds. Sometimes it runs pretty quiet. I live in Bullitt County. but have a place in Gilbertsville for fishing so I have access to the Louisville Area as well as Western Kentucky. I read that A20 in Clarksville Indiana was good at repairing the motors. Does anyone have any recommendations for a place to get it fixed near Gilbertsville? Any Info would be appreciated.

Bass & Gas ( the old Judys fishing Depot) fixes and installs minn kota, motorguide, Lowrance and hummingbird products! www.bassandgas.com. It's on hwy 68 east in Benton/Draffenville area.

I have used the 36 volt Terrova 2 years now for about 200 trips. I wouldn't have any other motor! How does he set up 6 batteries in that boat? Just curious.

He has both motors hooked to the same 3 batteries. He's got a 20/54 jon and fishes several local electric only lakes. 90% of the time he only runs the bow mounted motor but has the rear motor on a foot switch and kicks it on when making runs across the lake.

I went to the 2 blade on my MG because my boat cover kept cracking blades on the 3 blade props. Problem solved and I think my battery lasts a little longer because of the increased thrust.
